me working on seed orders
Finally got my seed order for 2011 done. I find this job depressing, between the increase in seed costs and some varieties are getting harder to find. Seed companies are eliminating open pollinated seeds in favor of hybrids. They can make way more money on hybrids. For example: I sell Poblano peppers and it usually sells for about $4.25 for 1/4 ounce. Now you can't find Poblano peppers but you can buy hybrids for $45.00 for 1/4 ounce. I guess I won't have Poblano's for sale anymore.

With over 400 varieties of flowers, veggies and herbs the only way I can keep track of everything in Excell. I track amount, cost, company, if received, start date and total flats. I print this out by start dates.

These are my Excell spreadsheets taped to my freezer door in the basement, which is where I start most of my seeds. This keeps me organized as to when to start them, how many, etc.

We bought a new used 1994 F350 diesel cube truck. It has an aluminum box and no rust; the guy who owned it before only drove it in the summer. This box is 2 feet longer than my old truck. We named her Ellie for White Elephant.

seedlings sprouted
Lots of seedlings sprouting in the basement. I have no problems with seasonal light disorder when your whole basement is full of lights. Feels like spring.

proven winners

This week I picked up my first load of Proven Winners. My girlfriend will help this week to plant these into 4" pots.
Week of March 14, 2011

Took some doing, but we got them all potted up. It is so nice to work in the greenhouses when it is still cold out. Makes you forget about the weather.
